01/01/2008 Which spinning reel is used by Vladimir Poetin ?
| This picture made all Russian newspapers in 2007, the picture was made during a trip with Prins Albert
of Monaco. | Jean-Paul Ceulemans from Belgium wanted to know which reel Poetin was using.
After some research we are for 99% sure he is using a Salmo Elite Baitrunner model 8950BR, see also the Salmo site from Latvia.
Of course the reel is Made in China for 100% sure (what else ?). |

The problem here is that if you click the model 8950 which Poetin used, you get a picture of the 8940 which looks different than Poetins reel because of the hole in the rotor holding the pickup.
This is important as the 8940 has no hole in the rotor for the bail, while the 8950 has a nice hole in the rotor holding the bail, see the picture of the 8950 and the picture of Poetins reels, he sure has a 8950 model there !
Further you can identify the reel to the double porting of holes on the aluminium spool, also note that the reel is ported at the top of the spool.
Also the golden coverplate at the body is a direct match as is the black small baitrunner adjustment screw. Also the bail is the same as far as visible in the Poetin picture.
Also color of all parts is a match and also the reel foot is a 100% match in shape. That this reel is sold in Russia also helps of course.
Also watch the way that Poetin is holding the reel with his left hand, it must be a big round knob on that side ! Of course he is holding the rod complety wrong with his right hand, just another detail.
