A Mitchell 314 was the donor reel for my new Mitchell 314 BBB-DS.

The BBB stands for Big Ball Bearing, and DS stand for Double Spool. The reel has several other outstanding features making this a total new fishing reel.

- Aluminium housing with 19mm Big Ball Bearing.
- Grease or Oil can be added to body without tools.
- Extra long handle, no dirt can enter from closed side.
- Grease Push System in handle, grease when applied to handle will be pushed out , incuding dirt.
- DS system, DS = Double Spool; special designed spool with special edge to manually wind last few meters of nylon for extra casting distance.
- Stainless steel insert in rotor for non-play movemement of rotor.
- Aluminium Oscillation Slide with offset for new spool (replaced in oktober 2009 with a non-offset version).
- Semi Skirted spool design


The Mark I model was tested in september 2009 and a lot of fish was caught with the reel. However two problem were discovered; on slow retrieve there was sometimes some unbalance in the reel which did not feel smooth. Second problem was the double spool for extra casting was too narrow. In oktober both problems were solved, a special counter weight was added to the rotor, now the reel is also with very slow retrieve ultra smooth. The casting spool was modified with wider spool which makes it more easy to wind the last meters of fluorcarbon leader.

The Mark IV is the latest version with modified pickup system and cork was added to the handle.
