| 1947, 60 years of passion, 2007 This is the text at the box of this special model which celebrates 60 years of Mitchell. The package comes in a nice white metal box, a Mitchell reel 300XGE, a T-shirt and a nice booklet with pictures of older Mitchell reels. Also the reel comes with a spare spool, on the ported spool there is the text 1947-2007. The none ported spare spool also has this text. In the metal box you will find a paper box which holds the reel and spare spool. In the paper box there are three papers, an expoded view of the 300XGE Anniversary, there is dealer listing , listing dealers in the USA, and there is small paper which is basically the user manual. The metal box has a strange number at its bottom, 1129974, I am not sure if this a serial number or some ID for the product. On the metal white box bottom is printed Made In China, so the box is also made there. The T-shirt is not a great design, it has just text, I would have liked to see a picture of the old Mitchell 300. The booklet with pictures is very nice, its the best part of the hole package, its designed by Cor Haanstra with photos by Jan Haanstra (from www.werpmolens.nl) Now what about the Mitchell 300XGE, is it a nice reel ? For 74,95 Euro Mitchell is delivering in this kit a very poor reel, its just another Made in China reel which tries to follow Shimano or Daiwa. Its a missed opportunity, why Pure Fishing does not add a modern remake of their famous 408 or 410, and add such a reel to the package. To my surprise there is even not a simple sticker anyware saying the production number with total production, like number 300/2500. Also you can't identify if the reel and box belong to each other, for a collector this is poor design from Pure Fishing. The reel itself is so bad that I would not recommed it for fishing, if you need a reel for fishing go Quantum/Shimano or Daiwa. What is wrong ? 1. Has plastic body which has been covered with rubber, it does not feel nice, very slippery. The reel also smells with a rubbersmell, same smell as all these cheap toys from China, oh my God. What happens with this rubber coating after intensief fishing in the sun ? I am almost sure it wil peel off. 2. Biogrip imitatated from Shimano, very bad copy, has sharp edges. 3. Mechanical play in handle. 4. Handle knob has some small profiel to increase grip, feels very bad between your fingers, not good al all, the designer who designed this probaly never fished with the reel. 5. Plastic parts on body are of very poor quality, you can see little dents at the edges, very poor. 6. Roter has mechanical play with body (wobble). This is no good. 7. Spare spool has a far better drag than ported main spool, I suspect a mistake during assembly, the ported spool has less rings inside. 8. Bail is no good, closes to heavy, if pushed against close position, bail needs to be closed manuals, very poor design. 9. Main axes to thin, if used with heavy line, this axis is going to bend for sure. Final conclusion: This package is only nice for Mitchell collectors because of the nice booklet and the nice white box. The T-shirt could have been better and the reel is very poor. If you need such a reel for fishing, look somewere else, this is not a real Mitchell reel.
