Tips

The Netherlands

    General:
    - The tourist information centers are called VVV. Look for signs vvv.
    - Visit the beach resort "Hoek van Holland" and see ships enter the harbour of Rotterdam.
    - Try or Poffertjes! (mini pancakes)
    - Other nice places in The Netherlands are Valkenburg, Delft, Leiden, Maastricht, Zierikzee, Volendam and Marken.
    - Very toeristic attractions in Holland are the Zaanse Schans and during a limited time (half March till half May) the Keukenhof.

    Rotterdam:
    - Get the Rotterdam Welcome Card including public transportation for 1, 2 or 3 days. Available at the VVV Office.
    - When you visit Rotterdam by car, know that parking can be a problem. Make sure you have a credit card to pay at the parking ticket machine or else try to ask local people if they can use their "chip-knip" for you and you'll pay them in cash.
    - The open air market in the center is there on Tuesday and Saturday.
    - When you see a place called "Bram Ladage" check out their great Dutch Fries (Patat).

    The Hague:
    - Don't miss the cylindric painting Panorama Mesdag, the beach resort Scheveningen and Madurodam miniature city.

    France

    General:
    - The toll road Paris - Le Mans - Rennes (E50) will cost you about 25 Euro.
    - Restaurants open up after 19:00.
    - In little towns the shops close down between 12:00 and 14:00.

    Paris:
    - Know that there's an underground passage to the Arc The Triumph.
    - Pay exact money at the questionable souvenir stand close to the Eiffel Tower. The (tag) price can go up after buying an article and you get less money back then you expect.

    Mont Saint Michel:
    - You can buy for 15 Euro a museum ticket for 4 little museums. Don't think you're done when buying this one because the abbey is NOT included and you have to pay there again if you want to visit it.

    Poland

    General:
    - Of course don't miss dead camp Auschwitz in Oswiecim.

    Krakow:
    - The center of the city has zones where you are not allowed to drive without a special pass.
    - Expect long lines by the ticket center in the Royal Castle. There's a limit to the tickets so they can be sold out also. Be there early!
    - At the Royal Castle take the dragon cave last, because you end up outside the Royal Castle.

    Wieliczka:
    - Like in Krakow, expect long lines to see the Salt Mine. Located ten kilometers from Krakow. You'll have to go a long stairway down into the mines and a narrow elevator packed with people will bring you back up.
